About
A practice built to make caring sustainable.
Sustainable Caring is a Practical Innovations practice, created to give clinicians and healthcare organizations a more accurate language for distress — and a trainable path through it.
The founder
Russ L'HommeDieu, DPT, EdD candidate
Russ brings three decades in clinical care and healthcare education to this work. As a physical therapist, educator, and doctoral candidate at Nebraska Methodist College, he developed the Occupational Distress Syndrome framework to name what resilience language obscures.
He is the founder of Practical Innovations, where the conviction is simple: the people who care for others deserve conditions and skills that let them keep caring — without it costing them themselves.
Improve the lived experience of every person inside healthcare.

How we teach
Built on the CORE framework.
Our courses are designed with the CORE instructional-design framework, so what learners encounter is built to change practice — not just to inform it.
Sustainable Caring summarizes and routes — it is the front door to a family of deeper resources. The framework, the solution, the tools, and the Academy each go further than any single page can.

A note on how this was made
This site and some of our materials were developed in collaboration with AI tools and reviewed by human practitioners. The framework, clinical judgment, and educational design remain the work of qualified people; AI helped us draft, refine, and build faster.
Care differently, not less.
